Jorgensen Kitchen
The design of this kitchen renovation was inspired by the Pacific Northwest landscape, and the ocean beach just outside the windows. The natural edges of the Douglas fir slabs contrast with the clean lines of the quartersawn black walnut drawer fronts. Form and function co-exist brilliantly as smart storage lies behind every door and drawer front. These clients are both avid cooks who love to host dinner parties so the kitchen had to function as good as it looked. The kitchen is outfitted with custom built-ins for many of the drawers, to utilize every bit of space, and to put pots and pans, spatulas and spices exactly where the cook needs them. A custom drawer for garbage and recycling keeps kitchen waste sorted. Even the space under the kitchen sink, which is so often relegated to cleaning products, features a partitioned drawer for chopping boards and cookie sheets that fits around all the necessary pluming. A hand rubbed oil finish on real wood, exposed fasteners, and a simple material palette lend a simple honesty to the design. Nothing is hidden or treated to be something that it isn’t. |
